From a Short Story WIP.
As Bambi stared at the photograph in her hand, all their memories assaulted her. His Smiles, the laughter, their combined joy, a soul deep love.
An ache settled in her gut.
That sunny day would be forever burned in her heart, her mind, and the secret abyss where she stored her most precious moments.
A tear fell, and then another, before she closed her eyes to staunch the flow, squeezing them shut. She lifted the photo to her heart, holding him close, trying in vain to heal a wound that would never fully heal.
If she’d only known that day would be the last time she saw him, or talked with him… If she’d only known her life would irrevocably change in that next hour.
She shook her head to clear the sudden throb, but the pain was still fresh, and the grief she’d held back roared to center stage.
“I would have held you tighter. Kissed you longer. Breathed you deeper.” She sobbed and more tears fell.
“I would have loved you better.”

Wow! I really felt the emotion of this tease. Love how you left it to the reader’s imagination to figure if the picture you used was the picture your protagonist was holding. Genius! This really is an open tease where the story could have so many possibilities. Thoroughly enjoyed the read, and well worth the wait too!
