Yep. It’s a true confessional. I, Erika Pierce, am a sports fanatic. Not only did I grow up playing sports (Soccer {Spring, Fall and Indoor}, Softball, Volleyball, Track and Field, and Candlepin Bowling) But I watch sports on TV. I am a DIE HARD — New England Sports fan. Just to prove my fandom: I am not a Pink Hat. I’m not a fair-weather fan. I’m a girl, who lives and breaths sports, and who would rather stay in and watch the game then do…mostly anything else.
In 2003, I cried when Aaron Boone hit the game winning home run in game 7, sending the Yankees to the World Series instead of the Red Sox. I cursed Grady Little for leaving Pedro in the game and leaving the decision up to him instead of realizing Pedro had no more gas and had pitched an amazing game and took him out. I’m still mad about it.
I was almost a Tobin Bridge Jumper on more than one occasion =)
In 2003, while on a layover from my Cousins wedding in Virginia — we were in Detroit and my DH and I were at the bar waiting for our flight. He turns to me and says, (under his breath) “I just saw D. Lowe and Kevin Millar walk by.” I was all … :Shut up!: and we paid our bill and then went in search of them. Sure enough we found Derek Lowe, Kevin Millar and Todd Walker waiting. I was so excited I couldn’t even talk (Shut it, Benji) We finally managed to get the courage to ask them for their autographs <3 they signed our ticket stubs and we have them framed and hung on the wall. Ah… Memories <3
I have been to the Celtics Playoff Games — without my husband. We sometimes kid with the children that we are related to Paul Pierce — they love it. (Hey, it’s a joke, we are obviously not related to him, just FYI)
I am a Patriots Fan. Plain and Fucking simple. I am a Belichik believer and my life motto is:
It is what it is. Thank you, Bill.
Starting in August, you will find my ass parked on the couch on Sundays, watching Football. The Pats are my first love, but I will watch all the other games. I know the rules and have been known to shout at the TV …
I mentioned Tom and Bill in my book Fractured Moon =)
Tom Brady is a QB God and I dare you to say different. Compare him to Manning? I’ll debate with you. I know the Stats, and I’m not afraid to show my knowledge.
In 2007, When the Pats went 18-0 and played the Giants in the Superbowl … Shit I still can’t think about that game without wanting to throw up. And more recently.. Sigh. Again with the Giants. shakes head sadly:
I watched all the episodes of HARD KNOCKS on HBO.
I’ll even watch a little of the Draft — OMG.
I listen to WEEI sports radio in the car when I’m not listening to my IPOD. I have read Michael Holley’s books about the Patriots. Yes… yes I really did. Patriot Reign is great.
I’m happy for the Bruins, but I don’t really like to watch Hockey. The rules bug the shit out of me. I do like when they trade blows though.

Now that I’ve proved my love, let me prove it further by telling you a little story about the other night. My DH and I were watching the Game (Celtics vs Sixers) and we were cuddled up on the couch. Now my dh was trying to get frisky and I just looked at him and said, “Dude, I’m watching the game!” He laughed and then told me to proceed with watching, but he was going to do his best to distract me… It worked. But as soon as we were done messing around, I looked at him and said, “Get off, me! Half time is over!” *laughs* My dh likes to talk and cuddle after, and there are times when I want to watch the games! I know — we laugh about him being a wee bit more girlie in that department than I am. (And yes, I told him I was going to post this story)
Don’t get me wrong – -I like to cuddle. Actually
But…but… the game was on. *laughs*
I know you are all (women, anyway) shaking your heads at me and wondering at my sanity. It’s OK. I wonder that same thing daily. It’s cool.
- When I was young, after my parents went to bed, I’d sneak out and watch Bird,Parrish and McHale.
- I wore a Chicago Bulls Coat during the Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen days. Hells yea, I did. MJ ROCKS!
- I also was a Buffalo Bills Fan (when the Pats totally sucked and were blacked out) I met Thurman Thomas – I have pictures.
So … do you like sports? Hate them? Ambivalent? My male readers, do you like a woman who can keep up with sports or does that bother you if she loves them as much, if not more than you?
Oh, and by the way — I’m a cheap date. A bottle of Sam Adams, and Burger and I’m good. Just in case you wanted to know.

I am a HUGE New England Sports Fan too!!! Football (GO PATS!!) and hockey (GO BRUINS!!) are my favorites. Followed by baseball (YAY SOX!!) and basketball (WooHoo Celtics!!). And a burger and Sam Adams (or a Wachusett Blueberry Ale) works for me!
Well – I am an odd sports face. I was lucky enough to live in Daytona Beach for a while and had to go to the races and it remains huge in me. I love Nascar and Richmond is a big city for it. Sadly, just haven’t gone in awhile. In another life I’d be a race car driver. I love swimming and hockey, basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. Do I know stats? Not enough time in life. Would I mind or do I having him watch sports? Of course not and even get all dolled up in a snazzy red dress to go out to a sports bar to enjoy wine, whatever game is one and yes – MEN WATCHING. That’s a sport – isn’t it?
I’ve never been too into sports….I’ve gone to one baseball game in my life…
